What is prediabetes and why should we be concerned?
Prediabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
Not everyone with prediabetes will develop Type 2 Diabetes, but many will.
High blood sugars that are untreated can lead to complications including eye disease, kidney disease, and heart disease.
Who is at risk?
Risk factors for developing Type 2 Diabetes include:
-Being over the age of 40
-Having a parent or sibling with diabetes
-Certain ethnicities such as Asian, South Asian, African, Indigenous
-High blood pressure
-High blood cholesterol
-Carrying extra weight around the abdomen

Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented with a few lifestyle changes such as eating plenty of vegetables,
more plant-based proteins like beans and lentils, whole grains, and lean cuts of meat/skinless poultry. Reduce your time spent sitting. Take a break by standing every 20 to 30 minutes.
